Since when does the profit motive take precedence over the public good?

Since when does the profit motive take precedence over the public good?
We residents of the Del Webb Community in Summerville, an age 55 and
over community of over 500 homes (Further building up to 1000) are in
dire need of a local hospital facility.
The legal squabbling of Trident vs. Roper has stalemated currently any
chance of a hospital being built by Roper on land they own at Carnes
Crossing, Route 17A at State Road 176.
It is our contention having heard presentations by representatives of both
that the main reason for Trident's blockage of Roper’s plans is competition
between for profit health care organizations. While Trident hangs up
construction of the hospital, we seniors and the children of three schools
operating currently in Cane Bay must travel distances to obtain emergency
care. Serious conditions of heart attack and stroke, sports accidents and
other immediate attention needs which need to be timely attended to
save lives is sorely lacking.
We are advised that even if Trident loses its case against Roper
Construction, we will not see a hospital facility built and operational
for five years at least. This is totally unconscionable and an absolute shame
on the legal, political and social levels here in the low country and
especially in Berkeley County which has no such facility.
It has been said that when the people speak somebody in power must listen.
