Fraternal Order of Police hosting Dinner
Tri-County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 3 is hosting a Spaghetti Dinner on Feb. 25 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Lodge in Hanahan. The proceeds of the event will benefit Lodge 3's ongoing programs including the local Law Enforcement Memorial and the Lowcountry Awards Ceremony.
Plates are $7 with advance ticket purchase and include spaghetti, bread and salad. Take-out orders are also available. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $10.

PTA auction March 9
Hanahan Elementary School has announced a PTA auction on March 9. A silent auction begins at 5 p.m., performances will take place from 6:30 to 7, and a live auction begins at 7 p.m.
Berkeley Citizens board meeting Thursday
Berkeley Citizens Inc. will hold a board meeting on Thursday, Feb 21 from 5:15 to 7 p.m. at 1301 Old Hwy. 52 in Moncks Corner.
'Bowl-a-thon' set for Saturday
The 40 and 8 of American Legion Post 166 will hold its annual “Bowl-a-thon” at Royal Lanes in Goose Creek, on Saturday, Feb. 23 from 12 Noon until 5 p.m.

Lions meet Feb. 25
The Goose Creek Lions Club will meet on Feb. 25, at 7 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 141 St. James Avenue in Goose Creek. Lions from other clubs are always welcome, as are community members.
Goose Creek Mayor Michael Heitzler will be the guest speaker. He will discuss the history of the city and as well as his new book.

Hispanic 'Women's Day' program March 8
Hispanic women will celebrate “International Women's Day” at the Holiday Inn Express in Summerville on March 8.
The event will feature Dr. Maria Cordova, Luz Alvarado, Lydia Cotton, Paula Tejeda, Eyda Arroyabe, Patricia McBride and a presentation about emotional intelligence and transformation by the psychologist and life coach Nilsy Rapalo.
The event will be entirely in Spanish and women will have a chance to celebrate their femininity with us.

Art Guild show begins Feb. 25
The Berkeley Art Guild will present a show at Cypress Gardens Feb. 25 to March 3. The exhibit will have works of oils, acrylics, watercolors and pastels of local artists, with some prints and originals for sale.
The show will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

Free wellness classes continue
Roper St. Francis Families for a Healthy Heart program teaches easy ways to be healthy and active. The program is offering a series of free wellness classes to be held at Howe Hall AIMS school in Goose Creek from January to April.
“Understanding Your Cholesterol” is set for Thursday, Feb. 21 from 6 – 7:30 p.m. Other classes are March 9, March 21, April 11 and April 27.
VFW Steak Night continues
VFW Post 10256/Ladies Auxiliary at 104 Stephanie Drive in Goose Creek holds Steak Night on the fourth Saturday of each month from 6-8 p.m.
Dinner includes one rib-eye steak or chicken with baked potato, salad and a vegetable, and Texas toast. Cost is $10 eat-in, and $11 carryout. Guests are welcome.

Alzheimer's support groups continue
The local Alzheimer's Association has three caregiver support groups in the area held at different locations on the second Monday of each month.
Locations are the Goose Creek library (5:30-6:30 p.m.) on Old Moncks Corner Road, Moncks Corner Medical Center (11 a.m – noon) on N. Live Oak Drive, and the Otranto Road library (1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.) in North Charleston.

3K run March 9
Lace up your running shoes and put on your St. Patrick's green and come out for the Shamrock Run – a 3K fun run and walk on Saturday, March 9.The race begins at 9 a.m. at the Goose Creek Community Center.
The run and walk is open to all runners, walkers and families. Get a group together and make it a fun fitness morning. The entry fee for the Shamrock Run is $18 with a run T-shirt, or $10 without a shirt. There will be prizes for the top finishers.

'Breath of Spring' March 1-3
The Breath of Spring Flower Show at Cypress Gardens will be March 1-3 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. daily.
The show's theme this year is “Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow” with Daffodils, Camellias and other flowering plants.
Creative flower arrangements include table designs, door arrangements, and miniatures designs. Entries can be made Feb. 28 from 8-11 a.m.

First Steps to hold meeting, election
The Berkeley County First Steps Partnership Board encourages the public to attend its annual meeting at 6 p.m. on March 14 in the Berkeley County School District boardroom at 229 East Main St. Moncks Corner.
Berkeley County residents who attend can learn more about the results of the First Steps to School Readiness program in the county as well as future plans. In addition the board will elect new members.
The Berkeley County First Steps Partnership Board encourages the public to submit nominations to the Berkeley County First Steps Board of Trustees. Nominees should reside or be employed in Berkeley County.

City announces heart health event
Celebrate National Heart Month with a fun workout and information on heart health on Saturday, Feb. 23 from 9-11 a.m. at the Goose Creek Community Center.
“Be Heart Smart” is a new program offered for ages 13 to adult that includes two rounds of fitness activities combined with heart healthy information and cooking with samples and snacks.
Participants can also win door prizes donated by Roper St. Francis Healthcare.
Bring your friends, your relatives and neighbors to this fun new event. Cost is $5 and includes the exercise classes, cooking samples, snacks and door prizes.
