Two gas station clerks were the victims of an armed robbery on Jan. 27 at about 1 p.m. According to a Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office incident report the Kangaroo on 1044 Redbank Road was robbed at gunpoint.
A female employee told officers a black male entered the store, came behind the counter, pointed a black and silver handgun at her and told her to open the safe, according to the report. She gave the subject the money for the deposit as well as an unknown amount that was in the safe.
A male clerk said the subject was dressed in black with a dark bandana covering his face. He said the subject came behind the counter yelling at him to get on the ground.
“Are you kidding me?” the male clerk asked.
“Don’t make me tell you again,” the subject said.
The male clerk dropped to the floor and did not get up until the subject fled, according to the report.
A witness who was inside the store by the ATM told officers the subject pointed a semiautomatic handgun at the clerks then fled toward Duncan’s Quick Stop.
A second witness said the subject was about 5 feet, 9 inches tall and 180 pounds. The second witness said the subject was running out of the store as he was attempting to enter. The subject had a semiautomatic handgun in his right hand and his left hand was up against his chest holding money, the second witness told officers.
The subject ran diagonal from the store to the Duncan’s Quick Stop and jumped into the passenger seat of a silver newer model compact car with two doors. The getaway vehicle was parked near the gas pumps pointing toward Howe Hall Road.
The crime scene was turned over to the BCSO criminal investigations and forensics divisions.
