The high school wrestling stars of the future shined brightly in the annual Carolina Invitational in Lexington Jan. 19.
The area was well represented in both the middle school and junior varsity state tournaments and even produced three state champions.
Cane Bay Middle School’s Jacob D’Ambrosio was the top man in the 92-pound weight class. Brock Corsey of Westview Middle School, a future Stratford wrestler, was the first-place finisher in the 131-pound weight class.
Stratford’s Amber Hunt was a state champion in the girls division.
Other local grapplers fared well too.
Stratford’s J.D. Harrelson (152) was second in his JV weight class.
Goose Creek’s Tyrik Johnson (160) and Caleb Rubin (170) placed third in the JV tournament.
Hanahan Middle School’s Jacob Van Maanen (117) and Cane Bay Middle School’s Nick Harper (285) had third-place finishes in their classes.
Many other wrestlers from the area qualified for the state tournament.
