Stall family history on SPS agenda Thursday

The Summerville Preservation Society will host members of the Stall Family during its Heritage Program to be held this Thursday at 4 p.m. in the Old Town Hall, located at 201 West Carolina Avenue, Summerville.
The group will hear from several descendants of the Stall Family, SPS President Heyward Hutson said. Principal presenters will be Jill Bolin, a resident of Beaufort, S.C., who wrote a history of the Stallsville Methodist Church and researched the Stall family genealogy, and Lynn Teague, an anthropologist and former faculty member at he University of Arizona, who will speak about a book published by the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation entitled, “The Old Plantation: The Artist Revealed,” by Susan P. Shames.
The Stalls are descendants of John Rose, who painted a famous picture depicting slave life at his plantation, Rose Hill, here in the Stallsville area. Lynn is the S.C. Advocacy Director for the League of Women Voters. Gary Zeigler, a media technical specialist at the University of South Carolina, will provide assistance and information on the Cobia branch of the Stall family. Local residents Ruthie Stall Ringley and daughter Robyn Henderson, along with George and Phyllis Stall, will serve on the panel to provide more recent information on the Stall family, such as the locations of Stall homes on Stallsville Loop.
