Three attend ceremony for ship

Navy Petty Officer First Class Timothy A. Brackens, a 1998 graduate of Stratford High School; Navy Airman Brandon G. King, a 2006 graduate of Stratford; Navy Fireman Wesley E. Palumbo, son of Darla Werkheiser of Goose Creek; along with nearly 12,000 past and current crewmembers, family and friends, recently attended the inactivation of aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CVN 65).
The Enterprise is the world's first nuclear powered aircraft carrier. It recently completed its 25th and final deployment and returned to its homeport of Naval Station Norfolk for a scheduled inactivation, held prior to the ship's terminal offload program and subsequent decommissioning.
The inactivation ceremony was the last official public event for the ship, and served as a celebration of life for the ship and the more than 100,000 Sailors who served aboard.


Brown completes basic
Army Reserve Pfc. Anthony C. Brown has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.
Brown is the son of Christine Kolstad of Montana, and grandson of Linda Odom of Hartsville. He is a 2011 graduate of Hanahan High School.
 
Howard graduates
 Air Force Airman Rashad B. Howard has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX.
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.
Howard is the son of Regina Howard of Goose Creek. He is a 2006 graduate of Hanahan High School.
 
Kendrick graduates
 Air Force Airman Chavis D. Kendrick has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX.
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.
Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Kendrick is the son of Ronald Kendrick of Goose Creek, and the nephew of Charslyn Brown of Homestead, Fla. He is a 2012 graduate of Goose Creek High School.
 
Moran finishes Nuclear Power School
Navy Petty Officer Third Class Michael H. Moran has graduated from the U.S. Navy's Nuclear Power School at Naval Nuclear Power Training Command in Goose Creek.
Nuclear Power School is a rigorous, six-month course that trains officer and enlisted students in the science and engineering fundamental to the design, operation, and maintenance of naval nuclear propulsion plants.
Graduates next undergo additional instruction at a prototype training unit before serving as a Surface Warfare Officer aboard a nuclear-powered surface ship or as an Electronics Technician aboard a nuclear-powered submarine.
Moran is the son of Kathleen Moran of Goose Creek and Michael Moran of Phoenix, Ariz.
He is a 2006 graduate of Greenway High School in Phoenix.
 
Nagel completes Navy training
Navy Seaman Apprentice Justin S. Nagel, son of Misti R. Kurzendoerfer of Goose Creek, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command at Great Lakes, Ill.
During the eight-week program, Nagel completed a variety of training, which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.
Nagel is a 2011 graduate of Goose Creek High School.
 
White completes training
Air Force Airman Juliana W. White has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX.
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.
White is the daughter of Zelledean White of Goose Creek. She is a 2012 graduate of Goose Creek High School.
 
Spencer graduates
Air Force Airman Weston D. Spencer graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX.
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.
Spencer is the son of Jessica Spencer of Goose Creek. He is a 2011 graduate of Goose Creek High School.
