  • Friday, January 18, 2013

A Goose Creek woman is one of 18 individuals across the state that was arrested last week on alleged tax evasion charges.
According to the S.C. Department of Revenue, the arrests came after investigators targeted those who claimed to be exempt from taxation with their employers and failed to file required state income tax returns, according to a SCDOR press release.
Victoria Cooper-Hilliard, of Goose Creek, is charged with six counts of tax evasion totaling $12,419. This occurred during the tax years 2006 to 2011, according to SCDOR Public Information Director Samantha Cheek.
Those arrested in the investigation filed W4 forms with their employers claiming to be exempt from taxation which caused little to no taxes to be withheld from their paychecks.† Those same employees failed to file tax returns for multiple years.
This statewide investigation resulted in charges of tax evasion against 18 individuals statewide. The 18 individuals allegedly earned a combined $6 million during the period of investigation and have a collective state tax liability of nearly $285,000.
Other suspects arrested across the state are residents of Summerville, Columbia, West Columbia, Piedmont, Boiling Springs and Greenville.
