Moncks Corner officer arrested

The Moncks Corner Police Department has confirmed a former employee was arrested for sexual exploitation of a minor charges. According to a Thursday press release, Officer Carl Shirer, 44, of Moncks Corner, is the officer in question. According to reports Shirer resigned from MCPD last week. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is handling the case. Shirer has been charged with 20 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, a felony that upon conviction could be a sentence between two and 20 years in prison, according to SLED. The arrest resulted from an investigation conducted by SLED, the S.C. Attorney General’s Internal Crimes Against Children Task Force, the Greenwood, Ind. Police Department and the Brevard County Sheriff’s Department in Florida. The case will be prosecuted by the S.C. Attorney General’s Office, according to SLED.
