Alzheimer’s support groups continue
The local Alzheimer’s Association has three caregiver support groups in the area held at different locations on the second Monday of each month.
Locations are the Goose Creek library (5:30-6:30 p.m.) on Old Moncks Corner Road, Moncks Corner Medical Center (11 a.m – noon) on N. Live Oak Drive, and the Otranto Road library (1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.) in North Charleston.

Tax aid sessions announced
AARP Tax Aid sessions have been scheduled at the Berkeley County Library Goose Creek and Farmers and Merchant Bank in Moncks Corner (221 East Main Street), on Monday and Thursday from 9:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the library, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. by appointment at Farmer’s and Merchant. VFW Steak Night continues
VFW Post 10256/Ladies Auxiliary at 104 Stephanie Drive in Goose Creek holds Steak Night on the fourth Saturday of each month from 6-8 p.m.
Dinner includes one rib-eye steak or chicken with baked potato, salad and a vegetable, and Texas toast. Cost is $10 eat-in, and $11 carryout. Guests are welcome.

Blood drive Jan. 8
The First Presbyterian Church of Moncks Corner will host a Red Cross Blood drive on Tuesday, Jan. 8 from 2 to 7 p.m. Childcare will be provided and all donors will enjoy a meal of Brunswick stew and cornbread.
GOP breakfast Saturday
The Berkeley County Republican Party Breakfast will meet on Saturday, Jan. 5 at American Legion Post 166 at 116 Howe Hall Road in Goose Creek. The guest speakers will be Sen. Tom Davis and Sen. Larry Grooms. All Republican candidates for the First Congressional District are also invited to speak.
Breakfast ($6) will be served at 9 a.m. with the program beginning at 9:30. No membership is required and the public is invited to attend.

Barbecue cooking school announced
The Carolina Pit Masters is teaming with the Omar Shrine and the Summerville Miracle League to bring a professional barbecue cooking school to the South Carolina Lowcountry.
Whether you cook for family and friends or cook competitively, the Carolina Pit Masters Barbecue Cooking School can help you “step up” your skills. Sign up to attend the school being held in Summerville on March 8-9, 2013.
