On May 3, 2012, Raymond Taylor “Pop” Phillips from the Beaver Dam area of Macedonia, SC left his earthly body to join his wife, Mary Louise Stewart Phillips, in their heavenly home. 


He was born on March 15, 1929 in East Stone Gap, Virginia and he was 83 years old at his death. Pop will be missed by his son, Michael Eugene Phillips and wife Gayle; daughter Debbra Elaine Russell and husband Steven, all from Moncks Corner, SC; his daughter, Joanna Rae Sports and husband Steven from Summerville, SC; his daughter Linda Jean Collins and husband Del; and son Gary Wayne Phillips from Beaver Dam. Pop will also be missed by 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, extended family members and many friends. 


Beginning at 1:00 p.m. on May 19, there will be a “Celebration” of Pop’s life at his son, Michael’s, home at 137 Winter Court, Moncks Corner, SC. In June his family will travel to Big Stone Gap, Virginia, where Pop grew up and his wife is laid to rest. There they will honor Pop’s memory along with extended family and friends with a memorial picnic at Bullit Park in Big Stone Gap, Virginia. His ashes will be placed with his wife, Mary Louise, at Powell Valley Memorial Cemetery, Virginia.
