The Goose Creek High School basketball teams concluded their non-region slates with a pair of victories over Summerville High School on Friday.
The recently selected top-ranked Gators knocked off the Green Wave 54-47 to win for the 15th time in 16 games while the Lady Gators coasted to a 60-45 victory.
The Lady Gators, 14-2 and ranked fourth in Class AAAA, had strong starts to each half, outscoring Summerville 18-11 in the first quarter and 20-8 in the third quarter.
Freshman guard Mariah Linney led the way with 20 points and five steals, while senior center Semoine Frasier and senior forward Shakeia Joy added 14 and 12 points respectively and combined for 17 rebounds.
Freshman Ericka Broughton had seven points and a team-high 15 rebounds.
Goose Creek’s boys team (15-1) also raced out to a solid lead after one period, leading 19-11 following the first eight minutes.
Senior guard Dantez Bennamon led all Gators with 17 points, while junior guard Kameron Robinson added 13 points. Senior guard Chris Singleton chipped in eight points.
Goose Creek also recorded sweeps over Fort Dorchester and Timberland last week.
The boys beat Fort Dorchester 55-43 and Timberland 46-39. The Lady Gators defeated Fort Dorchester 64-46 and Timberland 75-36.
Goose Creek was slated to host city rival Stratford on Tuesday after press time (see our web site for info on that game). GCHS then travels to West Ashley on Jan. 17 and Wando on Jan. 21 before hosting Cane Bay on Jan. 24.
