Members of the Fleet Reserve Association Lowcountry Branch 269 and Ladies Auxiliary Unit 269, led by Fleet Reserve Association National President Mark Kilgore, recently hosted the 61st annual memorial held at the USS Hobson memorial located in White Point Garden in Charleston.
The USS Hobson was a destroyer-minesweeper built in Charleston in 1942. The ship participated in several battles during World War II both in the Atlantic and Pacific theatres.
At the outbreak of the Korean War she was participating in carrier training operations when she was involved in a collision at sea with the USS Wasp. The collision broke the ship in two causing 176 crewmembers to be lost.
