Anderson makes waves in Tennessee

  • Thursday, January 31, 2013

Davon Anderson (l) is experiencing success in the hurdle events at regional track meets this winter. FILE

Green Wave athlete Davon Anderson had an impressive time in his first 60-meter hurdles race of the high school indoor season.
In the 60 hurdles final for the KYA High School Indoor Classic held Jan. 18-19 at East Tennessee State University, the Summerville junior crossed the finish line in 7.88 seconds to claim first place.
“Davon went into the final with the second best time at 8.13,” Peak Performance Track Club coach Twon Williams said. “Then we tweaked some technical issues he had in the prelims and in the finals he blasted a U.S. No. 1 time. His finals race wasn't perfect by any means so there is room for a little growth, but hey, a U.S. No. 1 mark is a great start.”
Anderson is one of five Lowcountry track athletes who represented Peak Performance at the meet. The S.C. High School League does not sanction indoor track and field so track athletes from the state compete with club teams.
Anderson also ran the 60 dash, placing sixth with a 7.10 time. He ran a 7.07 to qualify for the finals.
Berkeley's Emanuel Collier placed eighth in the 800 with a 2:02.94 time and ninth in the 400 with a 52.98 time.
Berkeley’s Marissa Pinckney placed seventh in the 60 dash with an 8:01 time. She just missed making the six-person final by .02. She also placed 22nd in the 200 with a 62.38 time.
Ashley Ridge's Shelia Austin placed 36th in the 800 and 52nd in the 400 with a 68.78 time. After placing 33rd in the 800 with a 2:18.27 time, Ashley Ridge's Woodrow Jones suffered a muscle cramp during the boys’ 200 and ended up staggering into the finish line with a 76.08 time.
