Goose Creek City Council passed a resolution recognizing the Goose Creek Gators football team at its regularly scheduled Dec. 13 meeting.
Councilmember Jerry Tekac read the resolution as four members of the team, GCHS Head Football Coach Chuck Reedy and Assistant Principal Ben Garrett stood before council.
The resolution officially recognizes and honors GCHS Principal Jimmy Huskey, Reedy, the football team, students, parents, faculty and supporters of the “Gator Nation.”
It cites their “willingness to fight for what is right and to stand by one’s convictions despite the obstacles one faces, exemplifies the pride and heart of the GCHS football program and … student leaders of the Goose Creek Gators [who] have exhibited a work ethic and level of confidence that transcends the football field.”
“We’d like to thank Goose Creek City Council for this wonderful proclamation,” Reedy said. “I brought along tonight four fifths of our offensive line.”
Team members Dylan Steele, Trey Simmons, Rodney Garrett and Tyler Hood were present wearing their football jerseys.
“We appreciate the support we’ve gotten from everyone in Goose Creek and throughout the state,” Reedy said. “Thank you so much for recognizing our football team tonight.”
The audience applauded enthusiastically.
