Woman bitten by alligator at SC gardens
Published Tuesday, March 09, 2010 8:25 AM
MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (AP) — A woman has been bitten by an alligator at South Carolina's Cypress Gardens, but her injuries didn't appear to be serious.

Multiple media outlets reported an elderly couple was walking on a narrow trail in the park near Moncks Corner about 3 p.m. Monday when an alligator between 3 feet and 6 feet long bit her on the leg and hand. Her name was not released.

Natural Resources Department Cpl. Russ Monnet says the woman doesn't know if she stepped on the gator. But she suffered a single puncture wound on her leg and another on her hand when she fell.

She was able to walk away and was taken to the Medical University of South Carolina hospital in Charleston for treatment.

Neither wildlife officers nor an alligator trapper could find the animal later Monday.
