Two people die in SC house fire
Published Wednesday, February 24, 2010 8:38 AM
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Two South Carolina residents have died after fire burned their home in North Charleston.

Multiple media outlets said the fire was reported Tuesday morning by a passer-by who saw smoke.

Charleston County Chief Deputy Coroner Judy Koelpin says the victims were 79-year-old Roy House and his wife, 76-year-old Betty House, of North Charleston. Autopsies showed the couple died from smoke inhalation.

Fire department spokeswoman Bianca Sancic says it took about 25 minutes to control the fire. Sancic says the cause of the fire has not been determined.

She says investigators are trying to determine if the home had working smoke detectors.
