Multiple media outlets report that 61-year-old Buster Dale Moore of Andrews was sentenced Thursday in Columbia to 21 months in prison.
In May, Moore pleaded guilty to conspiracy to violate the Animal Welfare Act and to operating an illegal gambling business. U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles says several co-defendants had been scheduled to testify against Moore.
Prosecutors say Moore was the leader of a cockfighting operation in Williamsburg County. In the past few weeks, 18 other people have been sentenced in that case and another cockfighting ring in Lexington County.
