The Goose Creek United U12 Spirit is atop its league’s standings after posting a pair of victories this past weekend.
The Spirit rallied for one win, surging in the second half for a 4-2 win over Saturday, and blanked the Summerville Burn 3-0 Sunday.
“My kids stepped up and did what they needed to do during both games.” Spirit coach Steve Evans said. “They all played strong and kept their eye on the prize. We are now in charge of our own destiny as far as the championship goes and the kids are excited.”
Against James Island, Omar Miramontes and Aaron Evans scored two goals each as the Spirit erased a 2-0 halftime deficit.
Evans also had two assists, while Miramontes and Gerardo Coronado added one assist each.
Against the Burn, Miramontes scored twice and Ricky Garcia tacked on another goal to power the Spirit.
Fernando De La Cruz had assists on all three goals.
The Spirit will be back in action Saturday with a must-win game against the NASA Revolution.
